Myopia Management
Younger generations are showing increasingly higher nearsighted vision prescriptions compared to their parents’ generations. Along with thicker, heavier glasses, higher myopia is also associated with increased risk for retinal detachments, myopic maculopathy, early cataract surgery, and glaucoma.
How can we slow the progression of nearsightedness?
Current myopia management therapies include eye drops, soft contact lenses, and orthokeratology, which is a hard contact lens worn only when sleeping.
How do I know if my child is a candidate for myopia management?
We always recommend starting with a comprehensive eye exam which evaluates vision prescription, as well as the health of the eyes. With this information, our team of doctors can make the right recommendation for your child.
What should I expect if my child is in the myopia management program at Visionaire?
We always begin with a discussion of the therapy options so together we can make the best decision for your child. After therapy has been initiated, we follow up every few months to ensure the prescription and length of the eyeball is stabilizing. Our team is available every step of the way to answer questions and keep your child’s vision on track!
